Mrs Donna Waddington

Headteacher

I joined Birdsedge First School as Headteacher in September 2020, a role I could not be more honoured and delighted to be in. Teaching and being a Headteacher has been a dream of mine since being a little girl in Primary School myself. I have always felt so blessed to have had such a wonderful experience at school and it is my life mission to ensure any children in my class or school have the same positive experiences that influence their future choices and opportunities like it did for me. I love to learn, I love performance and sport and I love to be outdoors. Three things I have brought with me to Birdsedge for our children. Birdsedge First School is a very special place, with a community of families who are a joy to work with and a team of staff who have the school and its' children at the heart of everything they do. We are on a very exciting journey this year to making Birdsedge First the BEST for everyone, this year is the year Birdsedge gets its wings and I could not be prouder to lead the school on that journey.

Miss Katie Hutton

Assistant Headteacher and Class 1 Teacher

Miss Hutton loves working in Early Years and KS1 as the children are amazingly imaginative and creative. She has worked with children and in early childhood education since 2001, as a childminder, a nursery nurse, a Nurture Group Leader, a teaching assistant and now as a teacher! Teaching has been one of Miss Hutton's ambitions since being a little girl, and now she works with the children at Birdsedge to give them a fantastic start to their education, so that they can achieve their own ambitions. Miss Hutton has three children herself, two of whom are grown up, and the third is in primary school. She lives with them and her dog Ruby. In her spare time, Miss Hutton loves to read, mainly fiction. She also enjoys spending time at the seaside, crafts, art and walking in the beautiful Yorkshire countryside.

Mr Phil Newing

Class 2 Teacher

Mr Newing has joined us here at Birdsedge First in January 2023 to take over the full time post as Class 2 teacher.  Previous to working at Birdsedge Mr Newing has taught across all primary year groups and in a range of different schools. He loves being a teacher at Birdsedge and the variety teaching in mixed aged classes and a small school brings.
